CTS - TASK3 - Essay Proposal - Rough

This is a rough version of my essay proposal, I plan to review it and research further into a few case studies and read more from the books that I have looked at. I'm unsure of any theorists to look at for the time being, this is something that I will be addressing as soon as possible.

Essay Title:

'How does the consistent changes in society force businesses to rebrand themselves to achieve sustainability within society?'

Aims:-

- to investigate the changes in which a brand and/or business has to consider and undergo in order to keep up with society
- to challenge the idea that a particular brand cannot sustain itself without some form of adaptation to the values and advances in society

Source Material:

Books:-

Roberts L. (2006) 'Good: An introduction to the ethics in graphic design' AVA Publishing SA 2006, Lausanne.

Dowdy C. (2003) 'Beyond Logos: New definitions of corporate identity' Rotovision SA.

Olins W. (2003) 'Wally Olins. On Brand.' Thames & Hudson.

Lury G. (2001) 'Brandwatching: Lifting the lid on branding' Second edition revised and enlarged, Blackhall Publishing.

Olins W. (1989) 'Corporate Identity: making business strategy visible through design.' Thames & Hudson, 1st paperback edition 1994, reprinted 1999.

Ottman J. A. (1998) 'Green Marketing: Opportunity for Innovation' Second edition, Publishers unknown.

Web sources:-

Theorists:-

Possible Case Studies:-

- Nike
- Adidas
- Primark
- Mcdonalds

To do list:

- read the books in my source material and highlight certain parts that may be of some use to me when writing my essay
- gather at least 6 internet sources that are relevant to what I am proposing
- read up on and study at least 4 theorist that I can then use to take different critical approaches to my case study
- research and search a variety of subjects for possible case studies

CTS - Briefing - Essay Proposal

Eassay - most significant element of CTS blog - not the all and end all - biggest task and best chance to gain marks

intellectual and critical standard needs to be raise from last year.

Not a regurgitation of knowledge - analyse - detailed complex arguements.
Compare 4 theorist against each other to make 1 point.

Similar to last year
2000 words (not a lot) 10% leniency (1800-2200 words)
More writers, more analysis

Aim for something, ultra specific - focus - find material to elaborate on
Focus then specify

Your choice of topic to write about - needs to be appropriate

Find a title - take a lecture that you understood (or an aspect) - apply to graphic design.
- take and aspect of your graphic design practice and research into that e'g' info graphics - signage - modernist

e.g. branding - nike sweatshop labour - disguised by the brand.

detailed critical dialogue - not a superficial overview

not conversational - 3rd person, not 1st person - not abotu what you think - make points and defend by backing up with points from theorists and writers.
NO 'I think this...' instead 'This is...' make a statement.

Structure

Intro - statement
Developed main section - needs reference to at least 6 different relevant academic sources
Conclusion - summarise
Bibliography - 12 sources 6 of which have been sighted from - harvard referencing system

Title
Short bullet points on content, plus 6 sources cited from (full harvard referencing system)
Initial bibliography and literature search
